It was abandoned because it was unlikely to yield fresh volcanic samples suitable for analysis. Hole 1162A is moderately to altered basalt. Hole 1162B is 9.9 m of dolomite (Unit 1) overlying a dolomite-cemented basalt breccia (Unit 2). Unit 1 is only pale pinkish dolomite; Unit 2 is highly to very highly altered angular to subangular basalt clasts in a dolomite-centered breccia. The glass sample analyzed has a Ba content at the high end, demonstrating a Pacific type mantle affinity at this site.
