Lithology data are obtained from the visual core descriptions (VCDs) prepared by sedimentologists and petrologists at sea. A database is created using the digital AppleCORE data, which form the basis for the VCDs. The database is then queried from spreadsheets containing laboratory data for rock type information using the standard "depth below seafloor" parameter used for all shipboard laboratory data reporting.
