From every 76 cm of core, a sample was taken for petrologic examination and for determination of calcium carbonate and percent coarser than 62 microns. Limestone, sands, silts, and clays, presumably of shallow-water origin, make up Eocene and younger sediments beneath the continental shelf east of Jacksonville. Upper Eocene and Oligocene sediments thicken slightly toward the edge of the shelf. Alternating layers of clay and limestone were deposited on the Florida-Hatteras slope during Eocene and Oligocene. Since Miocene (Miocene sediments are absent), they have been covered by clay that grades into sand. Foraminiferal oozes and silts have prevailed since Eocene on Blake Plateau.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Stratigraphy</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Atlantic Ocean</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Blake Plateau</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>carbonate rocks</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>clastic sediments</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>clay</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>continental margin</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>cores</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Eocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Florida</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Hatteras abyssal plain</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>JOIDES</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>limestone</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>marine sedimentation</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>North Atlantic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Oligocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ooze</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleogene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sand</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sedimentary rocks</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sedimentation</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sediments</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>silt</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>stratigraphy</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Tertiary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>United States</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>upper Eocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>USGS</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-87.3000</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>20.0000</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>0.0000</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>75.0000</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>Florida</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>North Atlantic</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
