Most of its sediment has been supplied by the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers, probably since the Early Eocene. The "Swatch-of-No-Ground" submarine canyon connects to one active fan valley system at a time, without apparent bifurcation over its 2500-km length. The upper fan is comprised of a complex of huge channel-levee wedges of abandoned and buried older systems. A reduction of channel size and morphology occurs at the top of the middle fan, where meandering and sheet flow become more important.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Asia</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Bengal Fan</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>bottom features</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Brahmaputra River</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Deep Sea Drilling Project</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Ganges River</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Indian Ocean</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>marine geology</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>northeastern Indian Ocean</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ocean floors</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>submarine fans</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>20.0000</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>147.0000</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>-60.0000</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>29.5000</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>Brahmaputra River</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>Indian Ocean</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
