Isopach and structure maps show frequent lobe shifting. The Mississippi Canyon, formed by retogressive slumping, connects to the youngest fan lobe. The upper fan-lobe is characterized by a large, incised, partially infilled, leveed channel. The middle fan-lobe is aggradational, convex in cross section, with a channel-levee complex on its apex. The lower fan-lobe contains a recently active small channel and several abandoned ones. Depositional patterns can be explained by several processes: "fluvial," debris flows, and turbidity currents.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Atlantic Ocean</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>bottom features</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>changes of level</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>currents</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Deep Sea Drilling Project</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Gulf of Mexico</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>marine geology</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Mississippi Fan</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>North Atlantic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ocean floors</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Quaternary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>submarine fans</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>turbidite</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>turbidity currents</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-91.1500</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-84.3000</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>23.4700</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>28.4500</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>Mississippi Fan</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
