Excepting one site at the Equator in the central Western Pacific Ocean, the cores mainly come from submarine platforms (typically 1-2 km water depth) in the Tasman Sea and the Southwest Pacific Ocean, west and east of New Zealand, and are strung out roughly in a north-south transect from 25 degrees to 50 degrees S latitude. Sediments in the Tasman Sea cores are foraminifera nannofossil oozes, while those from the Southwest Pacific comprise alternating sections of pelagic and hemipelagic oozes.
