They correspond to mixtures of Fe-smectites with celadonite or glauconite. They are Fe-rich and present variable Al, Mg and K contents. The observation of these clay minerals at scales ranging from that of petrographic microscope to that of high resolution transmission electron microscope indicates that their formation mechanisms are very complex : they form not only by precipitating directly from hydrothermal fluids mixed with seawater but also by replacing basalt primary pyroxene and mesostasis</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Mineralogy of silicates</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Igneous and metamorphic petrology</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>basalts</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>celadonite</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>chemical composition</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>clay minerals</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Deep Sea Drilling Project</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>East Pacific Ocean Islands</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>fluid phase</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Galapagos Islands</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>glauconite</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>hydrothermal alteration</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>igneous rocks</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>iron-rich composition</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>melange</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>metasomatism</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>mica group</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>mid-ocean ridges</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Neogene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ocean floors</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Pleistocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Pliocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Quaternary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sea water</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sheet silicates</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>silicates</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>smectite</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>TEM data</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Tertiary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>tholeiitic basalt</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>volcanic rocks</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>X-ray diffraction data</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>French</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-92.0000</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-89.0000</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>-1.3000</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>1.0000</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>Galapagos Islands</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
