The abundance, diversity, and areal extent of oligotrophic planktonic foraminifera combined with the presence, but geographic compartmentalization of eutrophic planktonic foraminifera indicate the expansion of the TRC from late Paleocene to early Eocene time. Because development of oligotrophic habitats is maximal under poorly mixed conditions, we infer decreased intensity of oceanic mixing through the thermocline across the Paleocene/Eocene Epoch boundary.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Stratigraphy</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Eocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Foraminifera</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>habitat</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Invertebrata</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>marine environment</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>microfossils</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>nutrients</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ocean circulation</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>paleo-oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleocene-Eocene boundary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleogene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>planktonic taxa</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Protista</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sea-level changes</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sea-surface temperature</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>species diversity</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>stratigraphic boundary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Tertiary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>trophic analysis</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
