Recently completed study of dinoflagellate cysts in the Maastrichtian interval from 1295.5 ft. up to 1260.25 ft. revealed an age ranging from middle Maastrichtian through latest Maastrichtian. First appearances of the dinoflagellates Palynodinium grallator and Cyclapophysis monmouthensis date the interval from 1266.4 feet as latest Maastrichtian. First appearance of Senoniasphaera inornata, followed immediately by Damassadinium californicum, identify the earliest Danian across a comformable KTb at 1260.25 ft. The total number of species, and their ratio to total specimens, are used together with pelagic (well-preserved abundant amorphous debris) and terrigenous (land plant detritus and inertinite) organic matter to distinguish episodes of relative sea level change.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Stratigraphy</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>amorphous materials</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Atlantic Coastal Plain</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Bass River</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cretaceous</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cyclapophysis monmouthensis</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Damassadinium californicum</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Danian</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>detritus</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Dinoflagellata</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>first occurrence</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>inertinite</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>K-T boundary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Leg 174AX</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>lower Paleocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>macerals</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Maestrichtian</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Mesozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>microfossils</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>New Jersey</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Ocean Drilling Program</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>organic compounds</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Paleogene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Palynodinium grallator</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>palynomorphs</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sea-level changes</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Senonian</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Senoniasphaera inornata</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>stratigraphic boundary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Tertiary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>United States</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Upper Cretaceous</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-75.3500</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-73.5300</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>38.3000</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>41.2100</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement><geographicElement><EX_GeographicDescription><geographicIdentifier><MD_Identifier><code><gco:CharacterString>New Jersey</gco:CharacterString></code></MD_Identifier></geographicIdentifier></EX_GeographicDescription></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
