Ostracod turnover from the Cytheropteron assemblage of the late Miocene-early Pliocene to a continuing increase in Krithe abundance probably indicates a deepening of some 1000 m water depth and a change in water properties from Intermediate Water to Deep Water, which may have been a result of the continuing subsidence of the West Mariana Ridge since the late Miocene.
