All these mounds are produced by a varying degree of interaction of along-slope bottom water flow with downslope turbidity currents. These mounds provide a complete range of intermediates between two end members: the sediment drift and the channel levee. Surface sediments on drift 7 suggest that the mechanisms for the supply and transport of sediment include entrainment of material from turbidity currents within ambient bottom currents, and pelagic settling from the sea surface, including biogenic and glacially derived material. The long-lasting activity of these mechanisms is documented by the data provided by four DSDP and ODP drill sites. Bathymetric and seismic data, both at a large, comprehensive scale and at a small, detailed scale, show the geometry of the sedimentary mounds and their relationships with the adjacent turbidity current channel systems. These data allow the determination of some diagnostic criteria to identify the sediment drifts.</gco:CharacterString>
<status><MD_ProgressCode codeList="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode" codeListValue="http://www.isotc211.org/2005/resources/Codelist/gmxCodelists.xml#MD_ProgressCode_completed">completed</MD_ProgressCode></status><descriptiveKeywords><MD_Keywords><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Sedimentary petrology</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Oceanography</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Antarctic Peninsula</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Antarctica</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>bathymetry</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>biogenic structures</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>bioturbation</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>bottom features</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Cenozoic</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>channels</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>clastic sediments</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>clay</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>continental margin</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>continental rise</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>currents</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Deep Sea Drilling Project</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>drift</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>geophysical methods</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>geophysical profiles</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>geophysical surveys</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ice rafting</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>laminations</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>levees</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>lithostratigraphy</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Miocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>mounds</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Neogene</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Ocean Drilling Program</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>ocean floors</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Pacific Ocean</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>planar bedding structures</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sedimentary structures</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>sediments</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>seismic methods</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>seismic profiles</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>South Pacific</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>surveys</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>Tertiary</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>turbidity currents</gco:CharacterString></keyword><keyword><gco:CharacterString>upper Miocene</gco:CharacterString></keyword></MD_Keywords></descriptiveKeywords><language><gco:CharacterString>English</gco:CharacterString></language><topicCategory><MD_TopicCategoryCode>geoscientificInformation</MD_TopicCategoryCode></topicCategory><extent><EX_Extent><geographicElement><EX_GeographicBoundingBox><westBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-80.0000</gco:Decimal></westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude><gco:Decimal>-60.0000</gco:Decimal></eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>-70.0000</gco:Decimal></southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude><gco:Decimal>-62.0000</gco:Decimal></northBoundLatitude></EX_GeographicBoundingBox></geographicElement></EX_Extent></extent></MD_DataIdentification></identificationInfo></MD_Metadata>
